Heather Hare, a former high school teacher, has been sentenced to 13 years in a federal sexual assault case, along with 20 years to be served concurrently, in a Saline County Circuit Court sexual assault case.

According to a news release from the Eastern District of Arkansas, Hare taught Family Consumer Science classes at Bryant High School. After meeting the minor victim in their senior year, she gave them one-on-one counseling sessions, leading to giving them her personal phone number and maintaining contact on social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat.

Hare engaged in sexual activities with the minor between 20 and 30 times in the 2021-2022 school term at several locations. Those locations included her Conway residence, her vehicle, her classroom, and the high school parking lots.

During a school field trip to Washington, D.C. in April of 2023, Hare and the minor victim engaged in sexual activity. She was on the trip as a sponsor and chaperone for the Family Consumer Science courses she taught.

Hare pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of interstate/foreign travel for prostitution/sexual activity by coercion and one count of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Hare also pleaded guilty in Saline County Circuit court to two charges of sexual assault in the first degree, both related to sexual activity with a Bryant High School student.

Teachers who have sex with their minor students should take note of today’s sentence for Ms. Hare which reflects the consequences of abusing her position of trust and taking advantage of the vulnerability of this minor to repeatedly engage in unlawful sexual activity,” said United States Attorney Jonathan Ross. “Our office will continue to hold accountable those who are in a position of trust that target children and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, as evidenced by Judge Rudofsky sentencing Ms. Hare to 13 years in federal prison.”
