ALTOONA, Pa — The Altoona Area School District's school board just approved a new backpack policy change for the upcoming school year that affects all students grades 6 through 12.
During the AASD's school board meeting on june 21st, the board approved the changes to the student code of conduct for the 2021-2022 school year to require all secondary students to carry clear backpacks.
"It's important that these kids, especially in these times, have that feeling of safety and continuity of education, and that's what we're trying to do," says Paula Foreman, community relations director at AASD.
This would also include athletic bags as well.
Foreman reiterates that this change is not to cause issues within the district, it is just to further protect the students and staff.
